Local artists encouraged to beautify the District one DC Water storm drain at a time

May 17, 2019

Five winners will receive $500 each and will paint their design on DC Water storm drains

DC Water this week launched an art contest encouraging District residents to submit designs that communicate the importance of the DC Clean Rivers Project and the need to invest in water and sewer infrastructure in the District.

“The cleaner Anacostia River is bringing a revitalization to the Anacostia River waterfront,” said DC Water CEO David L. Gadis. “In addition to the vibrant city life, the cleaner river is also welcoming back wildlife and aquatic species. This is a unique opportunity for local artists to express their feelings for the environmental and urban resurgence, as well as their vision for the healthier future of all three waterways—the Anacostia and Potomac rivers and Rock Creek.”

Artists should follow the following guidelines to submit an entry:

·       Must have clearly visible the artist's first and last name, address, and an artist statement or bio.

·       All entries must reflect the theme of the contest, “Cool arts and cleaner rivers.”

·       Artists may submit only one entry, but up to three concept ideas.

·       Submissions must be received electronically or postmarked by June 8, 2019.

·       Submissions can be sent electronically (PDG, PNG, JPEG) to fthompson@dcwater.com  or by mail to Office of Marketing and Communications, 1385 Canal Street, SE Washington, DC 20003

Designs will be judged on creativity/uniqueness, visual impact and skill and technique. Winners will be announced at a Cool Arts & Cleaner Rivers event in June. For more information, please visit: dcwater.com/cool-art-and-cleaner-rivers-contest
