Crews are nearly finished removing the rock and debris dam that was blocking the damaged section of the Potomac Interceptor. Since Monday, crews have cleared about 45 feet of rocks and debris, with only a few feet left to remove. This work is expected to be completed overnight. To reach the blockage, the excavation area was extended around the damaged pipe section to expose the top and access the debris dam. No overflows have been reported in 17 days; the last release to the Potomac River occurred on February 8. Upstream work is underway to clear soil, muck, and remaining debris in the pipe around the collapse site. Once all debris is removed, crews will begin preparing the pipe for repair. The pipe will be pressure washed and thoroughly cleaned before the geopolymer material is applied. Geopolymer lining could begin as early as next week and will be applied in layers as it cures. The emergency repairs remain on track for mid-March. Details▶️: https://www.dcwater.com/about-dc-water/media/news/update-work-remove-rocks-and-debris-dam-blocking-damaged-potomac
