REHABILTATION OF 26TH AND K STREET NW PUMPING STATION FOGGY BOTTOM AREA – ANC 2A

OVERVIEW

DC Water is undertaking the rehabilitation of the 26th and K Stormwater Pump Station, which is currently operating below its intended capacity. This condition presents a significant risk of flooding to roadways within the District of Columbia, including designated emergency evacuation routes. The proposed improvements are intended to restore full operational capacity, enhance system reliability, and mitigate the risk of flooding in this critical area.

                                   

PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK

  • Interior replacement of Five (5) stormwater pumps, associated piping, valves, and appurtenances.
  • Interior replacement of Motor Control Center and other electrical equipment.
  • Interior replacement of existing HVAC system, including addition of a vestibule to separate ventilated areas.
  • Exterior addition of a generator tie-in panel and interior addition of an Automatic Transfer Switch for emergency backup power.
  • Trenching to support installation of new underground bank-one 6x4” duct bank from property line to the pump station Electrical Room to provide power to new equipment, and one 3x4” duct bank from generator quick connect switchboard to Automatic Switch inside the pump station, Electrical Room 
  • Interior addition of a monorail hoist and replacement of stairs.
  • Interior addition of a dewatering pipe from the wet well to grade to dewater the wet well with a vac truck.
  • Other interior structural, architectural, and instrumentation work to support the project.

                        

SCHEDULE

  • Construction start: March 2026
  • Construction completion: June 2028
  • Normal work hours: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday
    • Contractor may work at night or on weekends, dependent upon certain construction activities or inclement weather

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • DC Water will work to achieve minimal disruption during construction operations.
  • Noise and vibrations will be closely monitored throughout the project.
  • For any necessary temporary interruption of sewer services during construction, affected customers will be notified 7 days in advance.

                                            

TRAFFIC

  • Flagging operations may be used daily for each construction phase to maintain traffic in the construction work zone. All Traffic Control Plans will be approved by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT).
  • During construction, “no-parking” signs may be placed in certain areas in and around the job site. Notifications regarding “no-parking” zones will be posted 72 hours prior to construction, as required by DDOT.

 

PARTNER

DC Water is working to ensure minimal disruption during this project. Regular updates will be provided to impacted residents, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2A, Ward 2 representatives in the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services, and Ward 2 Councilmember Brooke Pinto and members of her staff.
