As Director, Operations and Process Engineering, Shawna Martinelli Gill oversees the Operations, Process Engineering, and the Process Controls Maintenance groups at the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant.

M. Gill initially joined the Authority in 2015 as Senior Process Engineer. In that capacity, Shawna reviewed plant performance and Operation, and focused on projects which supported the overall plant performance and optimization. 

Prior to her service to DC Water, Shawna served as a chemical engineer for eight years with CDM Smith, where she was responsible for operation and maintenance of hazardous remediation systems ensuring NPDES permit-equivalents.

Ms. Gill holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Worcester (MA) Polytechnic Institute, respectively. She is a professional engineer, licensed in New York State and the District of Columbia, and holds an ABC Class 4 Wastewater Operator certification.
