DC WASA and DC Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs (OLA)Co-Sponsor Free Informational Fair & Community Cookout

The DC Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA) and The DC Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs (OLA) are co-hosting the second annual “FOR A BETTER HOME, FOR A BETTER COMMUNITY” informational event in a Latino community of the District on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at All Souls Church, located at 1500 Harvard Street, NW.

The purpose of the free event is to promote environmental and personal health and to provide important information about critical utility services. Utilities, conservation groups, Latino services and DC agencies will be exhibiting. There will be demos and workshops on conservation of water, recycling and composting. Demonstrations will be ongoing throughout the day and at the specific times listed below. Interpreters and bilingual staff will be able to provide information in English and Spanish.

DC WASA will provide information on billing, how to read the bill, language line options, and other customer services; construction activities, the fire hydrant program, careers at DC WASA and how to do business with the Authority. The District Department of the Environment will be represented by the Watershed Protection Division, the Environmental Protection Division and the Energy Office.

Additionally, La Clinica del Pueblo will offer free health screenings and health counseling. A complete listing of attendees follows below.

The event is free and welcome to all. It features a free community cookout for lunch and various free childrens activities.
