This work is being performed concurrently with the Kennedy Center’s Expansion Project and is located within the Expansion Project’s construction staging area.

The Roosevelt Bridge (I-66) and Rock Creek Parkway, adjacent to the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, will be closed on August 14, 2017, for approximately (10) minutes between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm for excavation work. The following roadways and sidewalks will be closed.

  • Both directions of Rock Creek Parkway adjacent to the Kennedy Center.
  • Pedestrian access along the west bound lanes of Roosevelt Bridge (I-66) and along Rock Creek near the Kennedy Center building.

Important Information

  • People who area near the Roosevelt Bridge (I-66) and the Kennedy Center during the closures, may hear a series of loud air horns, feel a mild vibration, and hear a loud noise. They may also see a brief plume of smoke at the southern end of the Kennedy Center.

Project Details

The DC Water Clean Rivers Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO 021) Diversion Facilities Project consists of constructing a structure to divert flows from the existing CSO 021 outfall, the largest CSO on the Potomac River. To reduce future impacts, the project is being constructed simultaneously alongside the ongoing Expansion Project at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The diversion structure will ultimately be connected to the future Potomac River Tunnel, which will convey the diverted flows to the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment prior to discharge to the Potomac River.

Starting March 23, DC Water will begin work that helps maintain more than 1,300 miles of water lines across the District.
