Temporary Single Lane Conditions Planned for Northbound South Capitol Street
(Washington, DC) DC Water is performing construction activities on South Capitol Street, SE as part of the Clean Rivers Project.
Beginning Monday, August 6, 2012 through Thursday, August 9, 2012, weather permitting, crews will perform work in two of the northbound lanes on South Capitol Street, SE near Anacostia Drive. Although daily working hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one northbound lane between Anacostia Drive and Suitland Parkway for the duration of this portion of the work.
Southbound lanes on South Capitol Street, SE along this stretch will not be affected by this activity.
This portion of the work will be performed in support of Division A of the Clean Rivers Project (Blue Plains Tunnel).
Important Information:
* One northbound lane on South Capitol Street, SE will be
kept open at all times while this portion of the work
takes place.
* Once this portion of the work is completed, South Capitol
Street, SE will reopen to two northbound lanes.
* Some traffic stops and delays within the vicinity of the
project area are anticipated.
Temporary traffic signs have been set up throughout the area to alert motorists to the upcoming lane closure. To keep everyone safe, motorists should stay alert and obey the posted speed limits when traveling through this area.
Project Details
DC Water is implementing its Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) for the Districts combined sewer system. The LTCP comprises a system of tunnels and diversion sewers for the capture of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to Rock Creek and the Anacostia and Potomac rivers for treatment at DC Waters Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. Implemented under a Federal Consent Decree between the United States, District Government and DC Water, the LTCP is divided into several contract divisions; the entire project, however, will reduce CSOs annually by 96 percent throughout the system and by 98 percent for the Anacostia River alone.
