TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Periodic Traffic Impacts on Clara Barton Parkway Starting Nov 4 - Dec 23
Drivers should expect periodic traffic delays midday and overnight on Clara Barton Parkway at the Maryland-DC border through December 23, 2026, as DC Water works to complete emergency repairs on the Potomac Interceptor sewer system.
During scheduled work periods 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. – 4 a.m., one lane may be closed to allow crews to safely deliver pipe, prepare for upcoming work, and complete sliplining work to repair this section of the Potomac Interceptor. Upcoming traffic impacts are scheduled for, but not limited to, the following dates: November 4 – 6 and November 8 – 20, with additional periodic lane closures as needed through December 23.
The remaining lane will stay open, with flaggers directing traffic in alternating directions. Drivers should slow down, watch for signs, and follow the directions of crews in the work zone.
This section of the pipe was identified for repair through DC Water’s ongoing effort to inspect the 54-mile Potomac Interceptor sewer system and prioritize necessary repairs. Based on inspection results, DC Water elevated this section for emergency repairs. Crews will repair approximately 400 linear feet of pipe in this area.
