Green Infrastructure Summit: DC Water to unveil proposed modifications to the Long Term Control Plan to include green infrastructure

January 16, 2014

Join DC Water General Manager George S. Hawkins and DC Water’s Clean Rivers Team as they unveil proposed modifications to the Long Term Control Plan to mitigate combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in the District. The plan calls for an investment of nearly $100 million to green areas of DC on an unprecedented scale.

Green infrastructure is a natural way to manage stormwater, by absorbing rain before it makes its way to the sewer or stormwater system. Examples include green roofs, bioretention, rain barrels and pervious pavement. Keeping stormwater out of the sewer system can go a long way to improving the health of our local waterways, since it contributes to CSOs in heavy rain storms.

Visuals include speakers and illustrative boards outlining DC Water’s plan to implement green infrastructure in the District.
