FOUR HOUR WATER SHUT-OFF IN AREA BORDERED BY NORTH CAPITAL AND LONGFELLOW TO 4TH AND MISSOURI, N.W.

A water shut-off is planned tonight between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. in the area bordered by North Capital and Longfellow Streets, N.W. to 4th St. and Missouri Ave., N.W.

DC Water and Sewer Authority crews will drain the line in preparation for fixing a leaking valve at 3d and Longfellow Streets, N.W. The leak is undermining the roadway.

The shut-off will be no longer than four hours and service will be restored by 2 a.m.

DC Water is nearing full containment on a sanitary sewer overflow, nearly a week after a section of the Potomac Interceptor – a major sewer line – collapsed in Montgomery County, MD. In the first full day of operation since a temporary bypass system was activated, the flow of wastewater downstream where it re-enters the sewer line has increased by about 40 million gallons per day.
