District Residents May be Eligible for Utility Discounts

August 04, 2009

Joint Utility Discount Day (JUDD) is Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 8am-7pm at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mt. Vernon Place, NW.

Joint Utility Discount Day is an annual event where low-income DC residents complete just one application to apply for energy assistance and discounts offered by DC WASA, PEPCO, Washington Gas, and Verizon all at the same time. They may also be eligible for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

For best service, customers should bring:
• Proof of household income,
• Picture ID with social security number,
• Recent utility bills such as oil, gas, electric, telephone and water and sewer,
• A lease agreement or rent receipt, if heat is included.

For more information about JUDD, call the DDOE Hotline at (202) 673-6750.

DC WASA also sponsors SPLASH (Serving People by Lending a Supporting Hand), a customer assistance program for residents which is funded solely by donor contributions and is managed by the Greater Washington Urban League. To donate to the SPLASH program, call (202) 354-3600 or go to https://www.dcwasa.com/splash/splash_contribution_entry.php

DC Water CEO David Gadis addresses audience at Pure Water DC Event

DC Water today announced the launch of Pure Water DC, a groundbreaking program designed to strengthen the District’s water supply resilience and secure a second source of drinking water for the nation’s capital. To kick off this initiative, DC Water convened a panel discussion along with industry experts, utilities, and federal and state regulators from across the region. The panel explored practical ways to make our water supply more resilient, including advanced water reuse —a growing solution nationwide to address vulnerabilities in the water supply. This method relies on advanced treatment processes to purify water to drinking standards so it can be safely recycled for various purposes.
