District Residents May Apply for Utility Discounts at Convention Center Friday, September 3

August 31, 2010

Joint Utility Discount Day (JUDD) is Friday, September 3 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place, NW, on Metro’s Green and Yellow Lines.

JUDD is an annual event where low-income District homeowners or tenants can apply for energy assistance and discounts offered by DC Water, PEPCO, Washington Gas, NationsLine, and Verizon by completing just one application.

To minimize delays, customers should be prepared to show:
• Proof of household income,
• Picture ID with social security number,
• Recent utility bills such as oil, gas, electric, telephone and water and sewer,
• A lease agreement or rent receipt, if heat is included.

JUDD is sponsored by the participating utilities, the District Department of the Environment (DDOE), the Office of the People’s Counsel and the DC Public Service Commission.

For more information about JUDD, please contact DDOE’s Energy Office at (202) 673-6700.

In addition to JUDD, DC Water sponsors S.P.L.A.S.H. (Serving People by Lending a Supporting Hand), a customer assistance program funded solely by donations from customers, residents and businesses. To donate to the S.P.L.A.S.H. program, visit https://www.dcwater.com/splash/default.cfm.
