One-time “Catch up” offer also waives some fees and penalties
Must be paid by May 31

DC Water has created a one-time offer for eligible customers with a past due balance. DC Water will waive some penalties and late fees, and then reduce the balance by ten percent. This incentive, called Customer Catch Up, is available to those who qualify if they pay their reduced balance by May 31, 2023.

“After the pandemic and economic downturn, DC Water continually provided a soft landing for those struggling to pay their bills,” commented CEO and General Manager David L. Gadis. “The present inflationary period is another obstacle to many of our customers and we want to extend one more creative program to help them get current.”

There is no application process and no waiting period. Eligible customers with balances outstanding for 30 days or more as of December 31, 2022, will be contacted directly by DC Water with more information. Penalties and late fees accruing after December 31, 2022, are not eligible. The full Catch Up balance must be paid by May 31. (For faster posting, customers can pay by phone at 202-354-3600 or online at mydcwater.com.) This is a one-time offer.

In striving to keep water bills affordable, DC Water created several innovative assistance programs over the last three years. The Authority was one of the first utilities in the region to offer a financial assistance program for income-eligible customers who do not directly pay a water bill. DC Water has also participated in federal emergency assistance programs.

DC Water reminds customers that there are numerous programs providing aid, and some have upper income limits that are quite high depending on the number of occupants in the household. As always, DC Water urges customers to apply for financial assistance if they are falling behind on their bills. In addition to the assistance funds, the Authority offers flexible payment plans.
