TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Lane Closures for Valve Replacement on Key Bridge

WASHINGTON, D.C. – DC Water will replace a defective valve on a 30-inch water main on the outbound side of the Key Bridge tonight. The work will take place between 10 pm Friday night and 6 am Saturday morning and will require lane closures that could impact traffic.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the outbound side of the Key Bridge, the westbound lanes of the Whitehurst Freeway, and westbound M Street, between 32nd Street and the Whitehurst Freeway.

Traffic control measures will be in place to guide motorists safely through the area. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are urged to use caution and follow posted signs and directions from the traffic control personnel.

The valve replacement is part of an ongoing project to assess the condition of water mains in Georgetown. Another valve replacement on a 48-inch water main will be scheduled later this month.

WHEN AND WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Date: Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10
  • Duration: Approximately 8 hours
  • Time: During overnight off-peak hours 10 pm - 6 am 
  • Location: Outbound Key Bridge at M Street NW in Georgetown

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

  • M Street NW – Westbound traffic reduced to one lane between 32nd Street and the Whitehurst Freeway
  • Key Bridge – Traffic outbound towards Virginia reduced to one lane
  • Whitehurst Freeway – Westbound traffic towards Georgetown reduced to one lane
