WASHINGTON, D.C. – DC Water is implementing overnight lane closures on the Whitehurst Freeway, Key Bridge, and M Street NW in Georgetown to complete emergency repairs to two large water valves. The excavation and repair work begins this week and takes place Monday to Friday, between 8 pm and 4 am. We anticipate this work will take approximately two weeks to complete.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the outbound side of the Key Bridge, the westbound lanes of the Whitehurst Freeway, and westbound M Street, between 32nd Street and the Whitehurst Freeway.

Traffic control measures will be in place to guide motorists safely through the area. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are urged to use caution and follow posted signs and directions from the traffic control personnel.

WHEN AND WHAT TO EXPECT:

• Date: Beginning on or about September 30, 2026
• Duration: Approximately two weeks, weather permitting
• Time: During overnight off-peak hours 8 pm -4 am

• M Street NW – Westbound traffic reduced to one lane between 32nd Street and the Whitehurst Freeway
