PLEASE DO NOT TURN ON HYDRANTS

Residents in the District are reminded that unauthorized use of fire hydrants is illegal. Numerous water pressure complaints have been received from customers in areas where hydrants have been turned on to cool off during the heat wave in the nations capital. In addition to pressure problems, turning on hydrants can damage the underground pipes in the system and create safety problems for youngsters, traffic, and fire fighting.
