SANITARY SEWER REHABILITATION PROJECT CHEVY CHASE NEIGHBORHOOD – ANC3/4G

OVERVIEW

As part of its Capital Improvement Program, DC Water will be performing a sanitary sewer rehabilitation project within the Chevy Chase Neighborhood (See back page for construction location map). While extending the service life of this local sewer system, other benefits of this rehabilitation project will include improved structural integrity of the sewer, while also maintaining adequate hydraulic capacity and mitigating potential sanitary sewer overflows.

PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK

•   Rehabilitation of approximately 62,127 linear feet of 6-inch to 42-inch sewer pipe within the project area using Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) methods
•    Point repairs to portions of pipe, where needed (this will require some excavation).
•    Rehabilitation of approximately 46 manholes along the sewer alignment.

SCHEDULE

•    Estimated Construction start: January 2025
•    Estimated Construction completion: July 2026
•    Normal work hours: 9:30AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday
      o    For arterial and collector roads: 9:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday
      o    For local roads: 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday through Friday
•   Contractor may work at night or on weekends, dependent upon certain construction activities or inclement weather

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

•    If a temporary water service shut-off is necessary at any point during the project, affected residents will be notified 48 hours in advance. All scheduled service interruptions will be Minimal.
•    DC Water will work to achieve minimal disruption during construction operations.
•    Noise and vibrations will be closely monitored throughout the project.
•    During construction, bypass piping will be installed from manhole to manhole to divert sewer flow.
•    For any necessary temporary interruption of sewer services during construction, affected customers will be notified 7 days in advance.
•    Some odor may be noticed temporarily during construction operations.

TRAFFIC

•   Flagging operations may be used daily for each construction phase to maintain traffic in the construction work zone.  All Traffic Control Plans will be approved by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT).
•    During construction, “no-parking” signs may be placed in certain areas in and around the job site. Notifications regarding “no-parking” zones will be posted 72 hours prior to construction, as required by DDOT.

PARTNERS

•    DC Water is working to ensure minimal disruption during this project. Regular updates will be provided to impacted residents, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3/4G, Wards 3/4 representatives in the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services, Wards 3/4 Councilmembers Mathew Frumin and Janeese Lewis George and members of their staff.
