Ryu Suzuki, P.E.

Director, Wastewater Engineering

Ryu Suzuki serves as the Director of Wastewater Engineering at DC Water, where he oversees the planning, design, and construction of pump stations across the District as well as Blue Plains advanced wastewater treatment plant. Prior to his current role, he served as the Process Engineering Manager at Blue Plains, where his responsibilities included ensuring permit compliance, evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment plant holistically, and optimizing complex process areas such as thermal hydrolysis, sidestream treatment, and the wet weather treatment facility.

Ryu holds a bachelor's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master's degree in Environmental Engineering from Michigan Technological University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in DC and an ABC Class IV Wastewater Treatment Operator. Before joining DC Water, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Panama.
