Protecting the source: what water means to me

Calling all high school-aged artists. Help Wendy and DC Water highlight the importance of protecting our source water through your artwork!

Demonstrate one or all of the following themes:

  • The connection between human actions and impacting water quality 
  • A community’s connection to local waterways – in terms of drinking water sources as well as places for recreation and enjoyment 
  • The role of water utilities to protect our sources of water through environmental practices and responsible wastewater treatment

Contest Details

Art will be judged in two categories:

  • Painting and Drawing — To include anything done in the following media - pastels, watercolor, acrylic, oil paints, colored pencils, crayons, gouache, spray paint or other non-digital media where pigment is applied to a physical surface such as canvas or paper.
     
  • Photography and Digital Art — To include art produced with a camera, on a computer, digital tablet or phone.

Prize

One Grand Prize winner from each category will receive Apple Air Pods *or a gift card of equal value*

The two winners will have their work entered in a regional contest with other Washington, D.C. metro-area water and wastewater utilities.

Submissions

*UPDATE* Submissions are due by Monday, April 25, 2022

The contest is open to any high school student in 9th-12th grade enrolled in a public, private or homeschool in the District of Columbia.

The art contest is supported by the region's water and wastewater utilities who are members of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Community Engagement Campaign.

To submit your entry, complete the fields below. A parent, legal guardian or teacher may complete the submission on behalf of a minor. If you are the parent or legal guardian, you can sign your consent by accepting the consent clause in the form. If you are not the parent or legal guardian, you must acknowledge that, at a later date, parental consent will be requested from all finalists selected by DC Water. You will see a confirmation message once you hit "submit."
