Your Commute Just Got More Refreshing

May 17, 2018

DC Water is bringing hydration to the celebration. Team Blue will greet thirsty bicyclists with free reusable water bottles and ice-cold tap water Friday morning during the annual Bike to Work Day. Commuters will enjoy a morning full of games, giveaways, and information about the most important resource for a healthy lifestyle—water. DC Water partners with local organizations throughout the year to promote healthy living, and encourages residents to choose low-cost, healthful tap water over unsustainable bottled water.

From 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, Wendy and Team Blue will host some of the 16,000 registered participants at the Freedom Plaza pit stop, and provide free hydration, entertaining trivia, and answers to the community’s water quality questions. Bicyclists can also check out a bike trail map of the Anacostia River—a community treasure DC Water continues to improve with the Clean Rivers Project.  Wendy and Team Blue will be joined by Mayor Muriel Bowser, DC Councilmembers David Grosso and Jack Evans, and U.S. Congresswoman Eleanor Homes Norton.

“Biking to work is a great way to be healthy and enjoy the District’s beautiful trails around our waterways,” said Henderson Brown IV, DC Water’s Interim CEO and General Manager. “This is another opportunity for Team Blue to connect with residents to discuss our work and share updates about our Clean Rivers initiative.”

“Bike to Work Day’s continued success is a testament to our regional commitment to finding better, more environmentally friendly ways to get to work, while making healthier lifestyle choices,” said Nicholas Ramfos, Commuter Connections Director. “We’re pleased to have the continued support of our partner, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, area elected officials, sponsors, pit stop managers, hundreds of volunteers, and the commuters who participate in this annual event.”

Bike to Work Day will be held rain or shine. For tips on safely riding your bicycle in the rain and to register for a free event t-shirt, visit www.biketoworkmetrodc.org. #BTWD2018 #BTWDdc
