TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Overnight Lane Closures for Valve Replacements in Georgetown
DC Water will replace multiple defective valves on a water main along a key thoroughfare in Georgetown tonight, Monday, November 2. Work will begin at 8 p.m., to address priority repairs and help keep water service reliable. Expect lane closures and delays on westbound M Street NW between 25th and 36th streets. One northbound lane on 25th Street NW at M Street will also be closed.
This is the final phase of construction as part of an ongoing project to assess the condition of water mains in Georgetown. Valves let crews start, stop, and direct water flow from the main. When a pipe leaks or breaks, working valves help crews shut off water in the repair area so fewer homes and businesses lose service. These replacements will help keep water service dependable.
Construction is expected to take eight hours. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians should use caution near work zones and follow signs and directions from traffic control crews. Consider another route and allow extra travel time.
