“Toast to Tap” Event to Celebrate Value of Safe Drinking Water for Our Health and Local Economy

September 29, 2014

Please join us this Thursday for a fun, lunchtime event with local food vendors, hands-on activities, giveaways and a free water bar. Entertainment will be provided by District-based band, Levi Stephens and the Working Class. Hosted by regional water utilities, national water organizations and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the “Toast to Tap” celebration will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act, passed by Congress in 1974 to protect public drinking water supplies. The event will take place in the Park at CityCenter (I Street NW between 10th and 11th Streets) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. At 1 p.m., officials will lead a toast to tap water with reusable water bottles and water that will be distributed at the event. Come out and celebrate the value of safe water for healthy people and a strong economy.

Event organizers include regional water utilities, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, American Water Works Association, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Clean Water Action and the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators.
