PRESS ADVISORY: DC Water, Councilmember Mary Cheh and others celebrate Green Infrastructure (GI) projects, and unique job training program for locals

July 22, 2014

DC Water and Councilmember Mary Cheh will celebrate the newly constructed Fort Reno Reservoir green roof and Green Infrastructure (GI) at several DC Water facilities. The GI installations are part of the DC Clean Rivers (DCCR) project to help control stormwater runoff in the District and significantly reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to District waterways. Several other GI practices were recently completed at the East Side Pumping Station and the Anacostia Water Pumping Station.

The celebration also includes newly established DC Water partnerships that incorporate the use of the Fort Reno green roof for job training and education, including:
• DC Greenworks – recently completed "Growing Futures" pilot green roof maintenance training program; and
• Alice Deal Middle School – a collaboration to expand S.T.E.M. educational opportunities for students.
