Northbound South Capitol Street Lane Shift Begins May 3
(Washington, DC) DC Water, in coordination with the District Department of Transportation, is performing construction activities on South Capitol Street, SE as part of the Clean Rivers Project.
On Friday, May 3, 2013, weather permitting, crews will perform work in two of the existing northbound lanes on South Capitol Street, SE near Anacostia Drive. Traffic will be reduced to one lane from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This portion of the work will last one day.
Other construction activities at this location, beginning Monday, May 6, 2013 through the remainder of the year, will also reduce the northbound lanes to one or two lanes between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
This portion of the work will be performed in support of Division A of the Clean Rivers Project (Blue Plains Tunnel).
Important Information:
* Some traffic stops and delays within the vicinity of the
project area are anticipated.
* Traffic will slow down while traveling through the shift.
Temporary traffic signs have been set up throughout the area to alert motorists to the upcoming lane shift. To keep everyone safe, motorists should stay alert and obey the posted speed limits when traveling through this area.
Project Details
DC Water is implementing the DC Clean Rivers Project for the Districts combined sewer system which comprises a system of tunnels and diversion sewers for the capture of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to Rock Creek and the Anacostia and Potomac rivers for treatment at DC Waters Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. The entire project will reduce CSOs annually by 96 percent throughout the system and by 98 percent for the Anacostia River alone.
