October 13, 2011

Washington, DC – Gus Bass, Manager, Engineering Management Services of DC Water, received the Washington Contractor Award from the Associated General Contractors of Metropolitan Washington (AGC). The award, presented at the11th Annual Washington Contractor Awards ceremony on October 10, recognized Bass for his individual contribution of more than 50 years of service to the construction industry and partnership with AGC.

“I am extremely honored to accept this award. Getting an award for doing what I love is very humbling," said Bass. “It has been a wonderful experience collaborating with the construction and consultant community on a wide range of sustainable development projects with significant environmental impacts.”

Bass has been an invaluable resource to the business community, providing strategic guidance and significant support to ensure opportunities for growth, sustainability and expansion. At DC Water, Bass oversees all construction specifications prepared in-house or by consultants, the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), EPA grants and Minority and Women-Owned Enterprise participation on all CIP goals for engineering and construction contracts. He interfaces extensively with design-builders, construction managers, contractors and other consultants doing business with the Authority, helping companies to better understand DC Water and its business processes.

“Gus has made DC Water proud with this award, but he makes us proud every day,” said DC Water General Manager George S. Hawkins. “All of our customers benefit from his expertise and his years of service, and this award makes that clear in a very public way.”
