DC Water joins utilities nationwide today asking the public to ‘Imagine a Day Without Water’ in a National Day of Action to raise awareness about the value of water and continued need to invest in water infrastructure. DC Water answered the call, recently topping more than 7,000 lead service line replacements in our Lead Free DC Program. Nearly one-third of those replacements occurred in the past year.

This year, the 10th annual campaign calls on the public to share “What’s Your Drop in the Bucket?” You can come out to our pop-up event today at Farragut Square Park in Northwest DC and write your drop in the bucket to post on our big board. We’ll be there from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. with trivia, giveaways, information, and a visit by our mascot Wendy.

“Our motto is ‘Water is Life.’ It is an essential resource we can’t live without, and we all need to contribute our drop in the bucket to ensure there is never a day without water,” said DC Water General Manager and CEO, David L. Gadis. “We’ve seen tremendous gains in the past 10 years, but investment in water doesn’t have an expiration date. Ensuring safe, healthy drinking water is not just critical today, but every day.”

The annual ‘Imagine a Day Without Water’ campaign has helped raise awareness and spurred historic water investments through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act to provide federal funding for water infrastructure improvements nationwide.

As part of the annual campaign, DC Water also hosted seventh and eighth graders from Monument Academy in Northeast DC this week to educate them on the importance of water. The middle schoolers toured our Main Pumping Station, a historic building in operation since 1907, visited our LEED Platinum certified headquarters building, and got up close with a sewer VAC truck as they learned how DC Water provides water and sewer services for the public.

You can learn more about today’s National Day of Action by going to our ‘Imagine a Day Without Water’ page on our website DCWater.com. You can also join us to find out more about the value of water and the investments DC Water is making at our ‘Imagine a Day Without Water’ Pop-Up Event.
