DC WATER encourages “getting to know your H2O” during Drinking Water Week 2013

May 06, 2013

It is National Drinking Water Week and DC Water is among the many water utilities and professionals nationwide recognizing the essential role drinking water plays in our daily lives, with special attention on the ways in which all water consumers can get to know their H2O.

Providing clean, safe water for our more than 600,000 residents and 17 million annual visitors is our first priority. During National Drinking Water Week, DC Water will educate our customers about the importance of ensuring water quality in their homes, protecting our waterways, and promoting tap water.

”Expanding and ensuring access to clean water is probably the single most important advancement in public health in our nation, yet we tend to take it for granted,” said George Hawkins, General Manager of DC Water. “National Drinking Water Week gives us an opportunity to focus on the incredibly vital role water plays in our lives, our communities and our economy, and to learn more about how we can all maintain a safe and sustainable supply of drinking water.”

DC Water will celebrate Drinking Water Week through school events and a children’s festival at the following locations:

• Leckie Elementary School
4201 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SW
Wednesday, May 8 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

• Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Children’s Water Festival
Brighton Dam Visitors Center
2 Brighton Dam Rd, Brookeville, MD
Thursday, May 9 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

• Randle Highlands Elementary School
1650 30th Street, SE
Friday, May 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

During these events, DC Water representatives will discuss their careers and provide students with a first-hand look into the water and wastewater industry. Students will participate in hands-on lessons about water-related issues, the environment, and the impact daily habits have on the availability and quality of water.

DC Water actively promotes the economic and environmental benefits of tap water. To learn more please visit www.dcwater.com/tap.
