DC Water Boil Water Advisory Continues: Interactive Map Available

March 06, 2014

A power outage on March 5, 2014 resulted in a loss of water pressure for isolated premises in NW Washington, DC. A precautionary Boil Water Advisory remains in effect until further notice. Please see the updated press release at www.dcwater.com or use this link (http://bit.ly/1f9qmnh) to access the interactive map that indicates if a property address is within the impact area. Customers within the map boundary should continue to boil water for cooking and drinking until the advisory is lifted. It is important to note that the map reflects conservative elevation boundaries that vary considerably throughout the impact area. If you are on the edge of the impact area, please continue to follow the Boil Water Advisory guidance.

The safety and health of our customers is our first priority. Water service has been completely restored, but the Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect for the affected addresses until we receive test results confirming the safety of the water. To minimize risk, customers should follow the instructions outlined below:

Customers should:
- Bring water to a rolling boil for 1 minute.
- Allow water to cool before using.
- Store cooled water in a clean container with a cover.

Customers should use cooled, boiled water or bottled water for:
- Drinking
- Brushing teeth
- Preparing and cooking food
- Making ice
- Giving water to pets
- Preparing infant formula

DC Water is conducting water quality monitoring in the affected area. If test results do not indicate any water quality problems, we anticipate lifting the advisory on Friday, March 7, 2014. Customers will be notified immediately when the advisory is lifted. If you are concerned about your health or the health of your family, consult your health care provider. Please share this information with everyone in the affected area, especially those who may not receive this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). Boil Water Advisory FAQs are available on the website and provide additional guidance for affected customers.
