DC Water Announces First Family Water Festival

DC Water will host its first Family Water Festival on Saturday, September 10 at the Bryant Street Pumping Station. This free, outdoor family-friendly event offers a fun learning experience for children and adults to explore a variety of water-related topics. The festival will feature interactive exhibits and hands-on games and activities to increase awareness of our water resources and promote environmental stewardship. To commemorate the near-completion of the First Street Tunnel Project, DC Water extends a special invitation to residents in the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park neighborhoods.

WHAT: DC Water will offer a variety of interactive learning stations, exhibits and activities at the Family Water Festival. Group tours of the Bryant Street Pumping Station will also be provided during the event, which will be held rain or shine.

With excessive rainfall forecasted for the region DC Water and WSSC Water are actively monitoring weather conditions and implementing mitigation strategies to minimize the risk of a controlled emergency sewage overflow from the Anacostia Wastewater Pumping Station (WWPS) in Capitol Heights, Maryland. This action would be taken as a last resort as the agencies work together to protect communities and the environment following the July 20 collapse of the 108-inch diameter Anacostia Sewer Force Main in Northeast Washington, D.C. near Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.
