CALVERT ST./DUKE ELLINGTON STREET BRIDGE WATER MAIN BREAK

October 28, 2004

The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) continues to work on a 16-inch water main break just west of the Duke Ellington Street Bridge in the Calvert -Woodley Park area in northwest DC.

The areas affected by the water main break are Cathedral Avenue – North Boundary; Connecticut Avenue – East Boundary; 24th Street – South Boundary; and Norman Stone Lane – West Boundary.

No structural damage to the bridge has been identified as a result of the main break.

Because of the location of the break, this is a particularly difficult and complex main repair that will require bringing in a specially equipped contract crew.

The crew will run a temporary main above the bridge while working on the repair.

To maintain water pressure for our customers, DC WASA is bringing water in from another water zone to the affected area. Nonetheless, residents in the area may experience fluctuating water pressure as a result of the repair work.

It is expected to take several weeks to complete the repair and restore full service.

Residents with problems during this activity can contact the WASA 24-Hour Emergency Hotline at 612-3400

The DC WASA website at www.dcwasa.com will be updated daily with information about the situation until service is fully restored.
