Unprecedented Turnout for Joint Utility Discount Day

October 01, 2008

Joint Utility Discount Day drew an unprecedented number of DC residents applying for low-income energy assistance and discounts offered by DC WASA, PEPCO, Washington Gas, and Verizon. The annual event enables District residents to apply for all of these programs at the same time in one single application. Residents may also be eligible for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Processors at yesterday’s event, held at the Washington Convention Center, assisted with questions and paperwork from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm. There were in excess of 5,000 residents seeking assistance. Due to the high volume, the District Department of the Environments Energy Office will continue to take applications through October 10, 2008. For more information, please visit the DDOE web site at: http://newsroom.dc.gov/show.aspx/agency/ddoe/section/2/release/15036/ye… or call the DDOE Hotline at (202) 673-6750.

DC WASA offers discounts on water and sewer bills and also sponsors SPLASH (Serving People by Lending a Supporting Hand) a customer assistance program for residents which is funded solely by donor contributions. To donate to the SPLASH program, call (202) 354-3600 or go to: https://www.dcwasa.com/splash/splash_contribution_entry.php
