Director of Sewer Operations

Cuthbert "Cutty" Braveboy is the Director of the Department of Sewer Services at the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water). In this capacity, he is responsible for the separate and combined sewer collection systems within the District of Columbia and the Potomac Interceptor Trunk Sewer which serves Dulles Airport and surrounding jurisdictions. He directs a staff of 160 managers, engineers, technicians, pumping station operators, sewer workers and administrative personnel to operate and maintain over 1,800 miles of sewer infrastructure. He has been with the Authority and its predecessors for 27 years.

Braveboy is responsible for compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) permit requirements on the collection system and a three-party Consent Decree on the Combined Sewer Overflow program. He also coordinates as necessary with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service, the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the District of Columbia Department of the Environment (DDOE) on activities regarding sewer operations, flood protection and stormwater management.

Prior to working at DC Water, Braveboy served as CC Johnson and Associates Senior Engineer on a team of consultants providing engineering management support to the City of Baltimore wastewater infrastructure improvement program. Cuthbert Braveboy holds a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from Howard University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of the District of Columbia.
