DC Water GM Leads National Effort to Secure Water & Wastewater Funding for Communities Impacted by COVID-19

DC Water sent the following letter to key House and Senate leaders today to request that Congress consider the impact that COVID-19 has had on communities across the nation. Mr. Gadis and water authority Leaders from 18 different states and the District signed onto the letter that was delivered today. Congress is weighing additional stimulus funds to assist sectors of the economy hurt by the ongoing health emergency. Many water and waste water systems are experiencing steep revenue losses because of the widespread shelter in place orders that have essentially frozen large parts of the economy.

Crews have completed construction of the two new access pits to support full installation of the enhanced bypass pumping system. Three high-capacity bypass pumps have been installed and are operational, with a fourth pump expected to be activated later tonight or early Sunday ahead of the forecasted weather to help manage anticipated higher flows associated with rainfall and snowmelt.
