WASA Investigates Allegations of Payroll Fraud

The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) has launched a full investigation into a reported misuse of funds in the agency’s payroll department. A WASA employee has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The matter came to the Authority’s attention earlier this week. WASA has secured the services of an independent accounting firm to assist in the examination of payroll and accounting records. The matter has been referred to the Inspector General’s Office for investigation.

Authority Offers Virtual and In-Person Options

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Washington Aqueduct, which supplies water to DC Water, annually performs a temporary disinfectant switch from chloramine to chlorine. This year, the switch runs from March 25 to May 6. During that time, customers may notice temporary minor changes in taste and odor.
