DC Water and Sewer Authority Offers Three Publications for the Summer Season

Preventing Flooding and Sewer Back-ups- This guide contains important information regarding steps to prevent rising stormwater from entering the home and devices that can help prevent sewer back-ups. Important phone numbers are included. Also covered are topics such as flood insurance and sump pumps.

Waterwise Landscaping & Watering Guide- This 24-page landscaping guide covers everything from efficient irrigation to selection of native, low-water-use plants.

High Usage Notification Alert brochure- By signing up for this alert system, customers are notified if their water usage spikes for four consecutive days. Alerts can come by phone or e-mail, and are often a customers first warning that there may be a leak or plumbing problem. By receiving an alert BEFORE the bill arrives, customers may save hundreds of dollars and hundreds of gallons of water. Customers may contact the Customer Service Department for help determining the cause of the spike in water usage.

Authority Offers Virtual and In-Person Options

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Washington Aqueduct, which supplies water to DC Water, annually performs a temporary disinfectant switch from chloramine to chlorine. This year, the switch runs from March 25 to May 6. During that time, customers may notice temporary minor changes in taste and odor.
