DC WASA Holds Public Hearing on Customer Assistance Program

The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA) Board of Directors is hosting a Public Hearing to seek comments on a proposal to expand the Customer Assistance Program (CAP) to include a discount on retail sewer service. Currently, CAP offers qualified low income customers a monthly discount on water service. The new proposal adds a monthly discount on sewer service as well, providing eligible customers with an annual savings up to $167.00 on their sewer bill.

The proposed rules were published in the September 19, 2008 edition of the D.C. Register, at 55 DCR 9869.

Each individual or representative of an organization who wishes to present testimony at the public hearing is requested to furnish his or her name, address, telephone number and name or organization (if applicable) by calling (202) 787-2330 or emailing the request to Lmanley@dcwasa.com no later than 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2008.

Oral presentations by individuals will be limited to five (5) minutes. Oral presentations made by representatives of an organization will not be longer than ten (10) minutes.

Authority Offers Virtual and In-Person Options

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Washington Aqueduct, which supplies water to DC Water, annually performs a temporary disinfectant switch from chloramine to chlorine. This year, the switch runs from March 25 to May 6. During that time, customers may notice temporary minor changes in taste and odor.
