CEO and General Manager George Hawkins Statement on Line of Duty Death of DC Firefighter

DC Water Chief Executive Officer and General Manager George Hawkins issued the following statement on the line of duty death of Lt. Kevin McRae today.

“We work very closely with the men and women of the District Fire and EMS Department, and today we mourn alongside them for Lt. Kevin McRae, who died doing the brave and dangerous duty he made his career. On behalf of everyone at DC Water, I want to extend my condolences to Lt. McRae’s family and fellow firefighters. This tragedy reminds us how indebted we are to them for their service and sacrifice.”

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Washington Aqueduct, which supplies water to DC Water, annually performs a temporary disinfectant switch from chloramine to chlorine. This year, the switch runs from March 25 to May 6. During that time, customers may notice temporary minor changes in taste and odor.
