Board Gives DC Water CEO 3 Year Contract Extension
September 22, 2020
DC Water Chief Executive Officer David L. Gadis was awarded a three-year contract extension yesterday by the authority’s Board of Directors, who praised his leadership during the health pandemic. The announcement means Mr. Gadis will continue to lead DC Water well into 2023.
Board Chairman Tommy Wells noted the important role played by the General Manager during these uncertain times.
“I think David has put together the best leadership team in the industry, expertly managed the Authority through the pandemic and been a good steward with ratepayer funds and investment,” said Mr. Wells, who also serves as Director of the DC Department of Energy and the Environment.
“We are proud and excited to ask him to stay with us and lead our utility for another three years,” added Mr. Wells.
Mr. Gadis, who joined DC Water two years ago after a diverse career in both the public and private sector water industry, has worked to overhaul the structure and culture at DC Water to align it with best practices and maximize results.
But he’s also announced multiple big initiatives, including an effort to eliminate all lead service lines from the District within 10 years if there is sufficient support from the District government.
He thanked the board for their support: “I am overwhelmed, just as I was when I first got the job two years ago.”
Mr. Gadis added: “I want to thank the Board for their continuing confidence in me. I am humbled that they have decided to extend their trust in me to lead DC Water. I take on this responsibility with the highest regard, and with the excellent team we have assembled we will serve the District and the suburban counties very well.”
