General Manager CEO Career Opportunity

The CEO/GM role demands a leader capable of creating and sustaining a high-performing results oriented culture; effectively managing resources and delivering an incredible customer experience for rate payers while also maximizing value by prudently deploying resources consistent with strategic planning and operational priorities as established by the Board of Directors.

The CEO/GM is also responsible for assembling a cohesive and dynamic team at all levels of the enterprise, consistently developing, rewarding and recognizing employees for superior performance, enhancing and sustaining employee engagement, and creating a thriving work environment that encourages and rewards achievement, collaboration, and innovation. 

This position is responsible for articulating a compelling vision to the workforce and aligning employee efforts in a highly unionized environment to ensure infrastructure and critical assets are effectively maintained, replaced and improved; planning, organizing and directing water and wastewater operations consistent with regulations; and overseeing all aspects of capital planning.

DC Water provides drinking water and wastewater services to more than 600-thousand District residents and 16 million visitors annually. DC Water operates the largest advanced wastewater treatment facility in the world, providing wastewater treatment for millions of residents in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland, Fairfax and Loudon Counties in Virginia.

Accordingly, this position requires a leader with political savvy and the ability to implement services and solutions that create buy-in and support from stakeholders with a variety of interests and demands in multiple jurisdictions.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and ten years of recent and progressive experience in water/wastewater treatment plant environment, inclusive of seven years of managerial experience.
