St. Elizabeths Water Tower Siting Study

The critical issue of deciding where to place the Anacostia Water District tower involved a range of considerations. Historical impact, cost, engineering requirements, and many other factors went into the selection of the St. Elizabeths Hospital location as the best choice.

Three sites in addition to the proposed St. Elizabeths site were evaluated:

  • Bald Eagle Recreation Center
  • Camp Simms
  • M.C. Terrell Elementary School

Site Comparison Matrix

Based on the above considerations, a matrix was developed to compare the proposed sites, with St. Elizabeths achieving a very high score in comparison to the alternatives.

The numerical comparison between proposed water tower sites demonstrates the clear choice for St. Elizabeths. In the following scores, 1 is below average (worse) and 3 is above average (better)
