What We Do
Cross-Town Tunnel Rehabilitation Project
The Cross-Town Tunnel is a portion of the Cross-Town Water Transmission Main, a large transmission main that delivers drinking water from the Dalecarlia Water Treatment Plant to downtown Washington DC and east of the Anacostia River. DC Water will be performing repairs to prevent leakage from the Tunnel.

Scope of Work
The Cross-Town Tunnel Rehabilitation Project involves the installation of approximately 800 linear feet of steel pipe lining in the tunnel, primarily under Rock Creek Park. To access the tunnel, the existing 25th Street shaft located west of the intersection of 25th Street NW and N Street NW will be demolished to the tunnel level.
Prior to accessing the tunnel, preparatory work including the installation of a second isolation valve and dewatering of the tunnel will be completed at the Foxhall shaft site, located near the intersection of Foxhall Road NW and MacArthur Boulevard NW. After the tunnel work is complete, the 25th Street shaft will be reconstructed, including connection to a nearby surface water main. The tunnel will then be disinfected and put back in service.
- Construction activities started in July 2011 and will be completed by May 2013.
