Internal Communications Manager
Rahkia Nance is the Internal Communications Manager for DC Water. She manages Authority-wide internal communications originating from the Office of External Affairs, the Office of the General Manager, the Department of Human Capital Management, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health and other departments. She is responsible for communication initiatives as part of the DC Water Team Blue PACT program. Ms. Nance represents the DC Water management team in observing and documenting field work, and the work of all operational departments. She supervises the content for the DC Water "Pipeline" intranet, and manages the production of the FOCUS internal newsletter.
Previously, Ms. Nance worked for Elements Communication Solutions, where she was a communications specialist assigned to the Water Works Board of the City of Birmingham. She coordinated and managed the production of newsletters, wrote news releases, shot and edited video messages, developed communications plans, and managed summer interns and temporary employees.
Prior to her work at Elements, Ms. Nance covered statewide and local education issues and municipal government for the Birmingham News, and worked as a reporter for the (NY) Press & Sun-Bulletin and the Washington Examiner.
Ms. Nance has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Florida A&M University and recently returned from Birmingham, Alabama to the Washington Metropolitan area where she grew up.
